Stress: a silent killer or God-given opportunity?

Is stress taking over your life? You know the feeling. Your whole body is wound tight and it’s hard to breathe. You lack energy and motivation. A good night’s sleep is a distant dream. Your mind is in perpetual fog, your memory is shot and your personality dulled. Your spiritual life feels totally off-balance and out of control. Work is suffocating and close relationships have become a burden. On top of all of this is the guilt you are experiencing. Men aren’t meant to feel this way; much less Christian men. Trust me, I know how this feels and we’re not alone…

Stress is the number one threat to our health with over 70% of doctor visits due to stress-related issues. The figure for Christians seeking pastoral care is probably quite similar. But it is not the stress itself that does the damage. What is damaging is our perception of the stressors in our life. That’s what stress management is all about - not eliminating stress (that’s unrealistic) but learning techniques to deal with immediate and long-term stressors, and then using stress as a catalyst to improve your life.

Our God turned the curse into a blessing ~ Nehemiah 13:2

This scripture provides the hope we need to achieve that goal. With God’s help, I can teach you how to tame and then reframe your stress. It’s a process of identifying your triggers, breaking those response patterns and making permanent lifestyle changes. Once you are in a better frame of mind, you are able to retrain your mind, body and emotions to better cope with stress and then reframe your thinking to perceive stressors as challenges rather than threats, with the aid of the Holy Spirit. This is how stress becomes a catalyst for growth instead of a force that controls your life. Whether you seek better outcomes in your health, relationships, spirituality or career, your chances of success hinge on how well you interpret and deal with stress.

There are several key differences between how I approach stress management:

  1. I go beyond simply dealing with the symptoms of stress to ‘get by’. My goal is to help you build a healthy life rich with purpose and meaning. Instead of chasing temporary warm, fuzzy feelings, you can experience a deep sense of joy and fulfilment that is impossible when stress is running your life.

  2. Having personally experienced the effects of stress, both physical and mental, I understand what you are going through..

  3. With certifications and experience in Stress Management, Positive Psychology, Christian life coaching, nutrition and fitness, I can help you from a number of different angles.

  4. Most importantly, as a Christian I have access to ‘extra’ assistance. As a fellow believer, so do you! We will work from the premise that we are God’s valued children and that our spiritual wellbeing is closely connected to our overall health. Applying biblical principles and Christian values to this truth produces life-changing results across every area of life.
